Rethymnon is a town on the north coast of the island of Crete in Greece. The picturesque town is famous for its well-preserved Venetian architecture, its fortress, and its beaches. The natural landscape around Rethymnon is diverse, and there's plenty to do if you want to explore the area. A guided electric bike tour from Rethymnon is a great way to easily discover the landscapes of Crete!
On this e-bike tour to the Amari valley, you'll cover 45 km (28 mi) of the island's paths. You'll meet your instructor at Hortatzi 25 in the Rethymno city center, and they'll distribute your modern e-bike, helmet, and a small bag, as well as give you a few safety recommendations for the day. Then, it will be time to go! First, you'll cycle along the coast of Rethymnon to the village of Prasies. There, you can admire the best-preserved Venetian houses from the Middle Ages on foot. Accompanied by your professional guide, you will get to know different aspects of the local culture during your excursion.
You'll get back on your bike and head down to the Amari valley, admiring the breathtaking view of Mount Ida: the highest point in Crete. Your next stop is the Patsos Gorge. Also known as the Gorges of Agios Antonios, the Patsos Gorge is a veritable treasure trove of wild vegetation. If you're lucky, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of some superb birdlife, as the gorges boast a rich variety of avifauna. Common species in the gorges include the golden eagle, the peregrine falcon, and the great tit.
The guided e-bike excursion near Rethymnon will continue to the Lake of Rivers (Lake Kournas). This nature reserve is a popular spot for nature lovers and, once again, perfect for birdwatchers. The lake is home to seals, falcons, wild geese, and many species of birds. Finally, before returning to Rethymnon, you can round off your cycling tour of the Amari Valley with a refreshing break in a charming café.
Recharge your batteries during your stay in Rethymnon and discover the remote landscapes of Crete on this guided e-bike tour of the Amari Valley!
