Set out on a 5 km sea kayaking excursion in São Miguel, the perfect chance to explore the stunning Vila Franca do Campo Islet and take in the beauty of its volcanic lakes.
Course of events
Please allow half a day for this activity.
- Get picked up or make your way to the meeting point
- Arrive at Vila Franca do Campo Marina and meet your guide
- Receive a safety briefing and your equipment
- Begin your 5 km sea kayaking excursion
- Explore the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo
- Take a break and enjoy free time on the islet (walking and snorkeling restrictions vary by season. Please check special terms)
- Return to the starting point and conclude the activity
- Get dropped off if you choose the transfer service
Activity requirements
The maximum weight for this activity is 100 kg.
All participants must know how to swim to take part in this activity, as this excursion takes place in open waters of the ocean. No previous experience is required.
Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity.
You must not have any medical contraindications to take part in this activity. This activity is not recommended for individuals with back problems, as well as pregrant or disabled people. Please inform us of any previous injuries, medical conditions, or health issues at the time of booking.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
The safety of our clients is one of our priorities, as this activity is dependent on sea and weather conditions and may be canceled or rescheduled.
Special terms
Please note that access to Vila Franca do Campo Islet varies throughout the year:
- April 15 to June 8: Walking and snorkeling are not permitted.
- June 9 to October 31: Walking is allowed. Snorkeling is permitted outside the islet only.
- November 1 to April 14: Walking is allowed. Snorkeling is not permitted.
The price varies depending on whether you choose to include pick-up. Pick-up will be at or near your accommodation. When the activity is over, we will drop you off again at the same place. Consider this for the city of Ponta Delgada (for others, please contact us).
During high season (June – September), pick-up and drop-off service is not available.
During low season (October – May), the pick-up service runs between 8:00 and 8:20 in the morning.

About the activity
Enjoy sea kayaking in São Miguel Island, immerse yourself in the views of high cliffs, islets and caves while having fun in the crystal clear waters.
Get to know the more than 200 km of São Miguel Island's coastline and the whimsical rock formations that the sea has sculpted over the centuries. Do not miss the opportunity to discover the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, which is categorized as a protected area and is known by the name of Anel da Princesa "Princess Ring".
Take advantage of the incredible exercise of sea kayaking, so you can get closer to nature in its greatest splendor. You don't need previous experience, you just need to feel comfortable in the water and the instructors will teach you and accompany you so that you paddle correctly and safely.
You will have fun and learn the most amazing stories and legends of this place thanks to your guides. The itinerary will be decided taking into account the weather conditions, your skills and according to your interests and preferences.
The adventure will start at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina, where you will receive a safety briefing and your equipment. Once you are ready, take off for your new adventure in São Miguel! You will paddle accross cristaline waters and discover beautiful cliffs, caves and the islet of Vila Franca do Campo.

We went sea kayaking around Villa Franca de Campo. We paddled about 5km to the island, where we snorkeled. There were so many amazing and colorful fish out there. The ocean was a bit rough that day so it was definitely a workout and fairly intense at times. But a wonderful experience and such a cool way to experience the island.
