Practical information

An introduction to ice climbing at Montmorency Falls Park in Quebec City, lasting approximately 5 hours.

Introductory activity suitable for beginners to ice climbing
Practise in the stunning winter setting of Montmorency Falls
Group of a maximum of 18 participants to allow for several supervised climbs

Course of events

Please allow approximately 5 hours for the entire experience.

Meeting with the team in front of Montmorency Falls Station, at least 30 minutes before the start of the activity
Presentation of the site and schedule for the day (toilets available approximately 10 minutes' walk from the activity site)
Equipment set-up
Training on positioning and basic movements
Training on rope knots and belaying
Vocabulary and safety instructions
Several supervised climbs
Equipment removal and end of the activity

Activity requirements

All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the activity.

Special terms

It is mandatory to reserve a pair of ice climbing boots in advance if the participant does not have their own. ⚠️ Boots cannot be reserved on site because you will not be at Roc Gyms to try on sizes. If no pair of boots is added at the time of booking, it means that the participant already has their own boots or has reserved them elsewhere.

In certain weather conditions, at the beginning of the season, or if the ice quality is poor, the activity may take place at Kabir Kouba Falls in Wendake, which sometimes offers more optimal conditions. Participants will be notified in advance if this is the case.

For safety reasons, accompanying persons are not permitted on the activity site.

Pets are not permitted to join in this activity.

About the activity

It is right in the city of Quebec itself that Aventurex invites you to try your hand at ice climbing, in Montmorency Falls Park on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River. Not only will you have the pleasure of discovering the joys of this winter sport, but you will also get to practise it right next to the impressive Montmorency Falls, which freeze over in winter! All the necessary equipment is provided to ensure a safe experience, under the supervision of professional guides/instructors certified by the FQME (Quebec Mountain and Climbing Federation) who will give you all the basic advice you need to get started with ice climbing at Montmorency Falls Park.

In a group of up to 18 participants, you will discover ice climbing in Quebec City over the course of 5 supervised hours during which you will be trained in basic positioning and movements, tie-in knots, belaying, the sport’s vocabulary and safety instructions. You will complete several ascents, always under the guidance of the instructors, who will be there to assist and advise you at every step. Between the physical effort of the climb, which will warm you up, and the magical setting of the snow-covered park, you are sure to enjoy unforgettable moments climbing the ice of Montmorency Falls!
