About the activity
Experience the exhilaration of a dogsled tour through the pristine wilderness of the Yukon, starting from Whitehorse! Sled dogs have long been an integral part of Yukon's heritage, famously aiding prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush. For enthusiasts of adventurous tales like 'Call of the Wild' and 'White Fang' by Jack London, this tour offers a chance to step into the shoes of a musher and perhaps even meet a husky like Buck.
Your journey begins with a shuttle drive from Whitehorse to the kennel, along scenic lansdcapes where rugged mountains and glistening lakes set the stage for your adventure. These Yukon landscapes, once traversed by gold seekers heading north to Dawson City, now provide the perfect backdrop for modern-day dog sledding on abandoned railway tracks.
Once you arrive at the kennel, Elevation Sled Dogs equips you with premium cold weather gear to ensure your comfort throughout the dog sledding excursion from Whitehorse. After meeting your team of huskies, including veterans of races like the Iditarod and Yukon Quest, you'll receive a comprehensive safety briefing. Then, it’s time to hit the trail. With your guide by your side, you’ll glide through the wild Yukon landscape, and if you're up for it (and the guide agrees), you might even take the reins yourself. The sled carves through snow at an average speed of 16 km/h, powered by a team of eight dogs, with a scenic pause at Bennett Lake for photos and a breath of crisp mountain air. With just two guests per guide, this experience is crafted for intimacy, thrill, and unforgettable connection: tours are very educational, and the mushers always enjoy sharing experiences and stories with participants who get to know more about the dogs.
As you journey back to base camp, warm drinks await to replenish your energy after an exhilarating experience of driving your own husky team in Yukon. Conclude your half-day adventure with a visit to the Wild Adventure Yukon Wildlife Gallery, immersing yourself further in the natural wonders of the Yukon.
