About the activity

Taking a surf lesson in Biarritz offers the opportunity to learn on Côte des Basques beach, recognized as an emblematic and historic location for surfing in Europe. Bordered by spectacular cliffs, this 800-meter stretch of sand features multiple wave configurations. The sandbars create varied technical zones where each participant will find waves perfectly suited to their level, from beginner-friendly whitewater to more challenging waves for experienced surfers. The warm atmosphere of the Basque coast and the quality of the swell make this Atlantic coast spot world-renowned for riding the ocean.

Instruction is provided by the passionate team at La Vague Basque surf school, made up of instructors with state-certified BEES qualifications and BNSSA certification for water safety. In accordance with French Surfing Federation regulations, each instructor works with groups limited to 8 people maximum and stays in the water with you at all times to guide and advise you. Instructors personalize each lesson to your progress, fitness level, and the day's wave conditions. Beginners will learn fundamentals like paddling and take-off, while experienced surfers can refine their technique and discover new maneuvers.

Equipment is also adapted to your progression. You start with comfortable Madness neoprene wetsuits and foam boards that provide better stability. Based on your progress and abilities, the instructor will upgrade your board to a fiberglass board as you continue learning.

Suitable from age 6 onwards, La Vague Basque offers several programs adapted to every level. For a first experience, choose a one-day lesson with a group session of 1h30 to enjoy the group dynamic, or a private 1h30 lesson for personalized attention. If you want optimal progression over multiple days to master the fundamentals or learn new maneuvers, 3 or 5-session packages offer full immersion. The school is open from April to December, adjusting to different seasons and tides.
