There is no reason why you should stop climbing during winter, in fact, it's even more fun! Vertical Emotions will teach you how to ice climb on frozen walls!
When winter arrives at mountainous regions, waterfalls get frozen into solid ice. The Catalan Pyrenees are no exception to this phenomena and in the Nuria region, you can find the perfect spot for your first contact with ice climbing.
Ice climbing is a variant of the better-known spot of rock climbing, yet the techniques and equipment are completely different. Sharing only the harness, cord, and helmet as safety equipment, ice climbing requires you to be able to handle an ice ax, or piolet, and weatherproof boots with crampons to make your way up the frozen ice. If you've experienced rock climbing, you'll love ice climbing!
Vertical Emotions' favorite spots for ice climbing initiations is Coma de L'Orri, located on the same route going up to Vallter 2000 ski resort in the Setcases municipality which is almost on the frontier with France.
