Discover olive fields, wildflowers and green mountains on this relaxed hike through the beautiful valley of Pigadia in Karpathos!

Karpathos is a Greek island, the second-largest of the Dodecanese group located in the Aegean Sea. Pigadia is the capital and main port town of Kaprathos, situated on the island's southeastern coast. It is known for its charming culture, rich history, and beautiful scenery.

The adventure begins at the starting point in Pigadia, where you'll meet your local experienced tour guide. The guide will provide you with walking sticks and go through a quick safety briefing. The trail is relatively easy and is suitable for beginners. Once everyone is prepared, the hiking tour begins!

The valley of Pigadia lies just outside of the main town. The valley is used for many agricultural purposes, with locals cultivating olives, grapes, and various vegetables from the fertile lands. The presence of natural springs and streams supports the lush vegetation and farming activities. You'll hike through olive fields and paths where goats roam freely. Along the way, you'll pass by abandoned houses, flower-filled fields, lush greenery, and olive trees.

The idyllic hike leads you to the mountain village of Menetes in rural Karpathos. When you reach the chapel below Menetes, you'll take a break in the shade and enjoy a fresh cup of locally made herbal tea or coffee. After the refreshments, you will enter the chapel to see how the locals pray and learn some interesting historical facts. Leaving the chapel, you'll head into the sometimes slightly wet river bed. Hundreds of years old olive trees and fossilised shells await you at the end of the walk! The tour comes to an end back at the starting point in Pigadia.

Don't miss this peaceful hiking tour in the valley of Pigadia to experience the rugged beauty of the island of Karpathos in Greece!
