About the activity

The boat tour departs from Ilulissat, a coastal town in western Greenland situated on the shores of Disko Bay. You'll travel to and explore Ilimanaq, a small settlement located approximately 17 kilometres (11 miles) south of Ilulissat, known for its rich history and culture.

The boat trip to Ilimanaq begins at the harbour starting point in Ilulissat, where you'll meet your friendly guide and board the comfortable boat, which seats up to 10 participants. After everyone is welcomed onto the boat, the guide will go through a quick safety and itinerary briefing. Then, it's time to sit back and relax as the captain sails towards Ilimanaq, passing the rugged Arctic coastline of Disko Bay. During the boat excursion from Ilulissat, you'll pass glaciers, frozen waters and floating icebergs!

Upon arrival at Ilimanaq, the guide will take you on a 3-hour tour of this historic village. Founded in 1741, Ilimanaq is one of Greenland's oldest settlements, once a traditional fishing and whaling village. Today, it's a popular tourist hub, offering luxury cabins with views of Disko Bay, whale watching, and glacier tours. You'll explore two timber structures which are the oldest preserved and listed colonial buildings in Greenland.

During the guided tour of Ilimanaq, you'll learn about the village's important history and the local traditions like fishing and hunting still practised by the community in this remote location. There will also be an optional meal at Restaurant Egede, where you can admire the natural Arctic beauty of the bay from Ilimanaq Lodge. Otherwise, you'll enjoy a light packed meal during the tour. Afterwards, you'll sail back to the starting point in Ilulissat.

Immerse yourself in the local culture and stunning nature of Ilimanaq on this sightseeing boat tour from Ilulissat.
