For your boat tour to Ilimanaq, you'll depart from Ilulissat, a picturesque coastal town in western Greenland. Ilimanaq is a small settlement located about 15 km (9 mi) south of Ilulissat. It is one of Greenland’s oldest settlements, dating back to the 18th century, and offers breathtaking views of Disko Bay, towering icebergs, and the vast Arctic wilderness.

The adventure begins at the harbour in Ilulissat, where you'll board the comfortable boat and meet your experienced captain. After receiving your life jacket and safety briefing, the boat trip in Greenland begins! The local captain/guide will set sail along the frozen waters of Disko Bay, passing western Greenland's rugged coastline.

After about 1 hour of sailing, you'll reach the village of Ilimanaq, located on the southern side of the Ilulissat Icefjord mouth. The secluded settlement is home to about 45 inhabitants, who live a peaceful lifestyle. They hunt and fish for food and use melted ice for drinking water. The village is very isolated, it is only accessible by boat in the summer and helicopter in the winter. It can be difficult to reach the village if there is too much ice drift in the front of the fjord estuary.

At Ilimanaq, you'll have some free time to explore the village and discover the slow-paced traditional Greenlandic lifestyle. You can walk through the Arctic tundra, visit the restored Ilimanaq Colonial Houses, and maybe spot unique Arctic wildlife, such as musk oxen, Arctic foxes, seabirds, or even whales! You'll also have mesmerising views of the Ilulissat Icefjord and passing immense icebergs calved from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. After your tour of Ilimanaq, you'll sail back to the starting point in Ilulissat.

Experience the authentic Greenlandic village of Ilimanaq on this immersive boat tour from Ilulissat!
