About the activity

The activity begins in Skaftafell, a breathtaking nature reserve located in the southeastern part of Iceland, within the larger Vatnajökull National Park. During the glacier hiking and boat tour from Skaftafell, you'll explore the stunning nearby Falljökull Glacier!

The glacier hiking trip on Falljökull begins at the starting point in Skaftafell, where you'll meet the experienced guide. You'll prep for the glacier hike by receiving the necessary safety gear (crampons, a harness, a helmet and an ice axe) and instructions on how to use the equipment. Then, the glacier hiking on Falljökull begins! Falljökull is a glacier tongue that extends from the larger Vatnajökull ice cap, which is the largest glacier in Europe.

During your thrilling glacier hiking tour, you'll explore Falljökull's unique landscapes, with deep crevasses, ridges, and blue ice formations. As part of the vast Vatnajökull National Park, Falljökull also offers scenic views of Iceland's pristine wilderness. After your glacier hiking on Falljökull, you'll return to the starting point in Skaftafell. Then, you'll make your own way to the meeting point for the second activity at Fjallsárlón Boat Tours. Before the start time of the boat tour, you'll have some free time to grab an optional lunch at the Frost restaurant.

A guide will greet you at the Zodiac Adventure boat for your scenic boat tour on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon. After boarding, you'll receive a life vest and itinerary briefing. Then, the boat tour on the lagoon begins! The captain will set sail along the deep blue waters of the lagoon, which sits at the base of Fjallsjökull Glacier. On the small and agile boat, you'll get the chance to experience the massive icefall at the face of the glacier up close. You may also see enormous icebergs breaking off from the glacier and floating in the lagoon. At the end of your boat tour on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon, you'll return to the starting point.
