Nestled in the South Tyrolean Alps, the villages of Dorf Tirol, Algund, and Merano offer a spectacular blend of high-altitude peaks and lush Mediterranean-style valleys. This region is a true paragliding paradise, where the thermal winds of the Adige Valley meet the jagged silhouettes of the Texelgruppe mountain range. Flying here provides a unique perspective on the historic Tyrol Castle, a landmark that has stood since the 12th century, and the surrounding apple orchards that stretch toward Bolzano.
Your paragliding adventure begins at the bottom station of the Hochmuth Cable Car, where you will meet your certified pilot from the Tirolfly team. After a scenic 5-minute ride up the mountain, you will reach the takeoff site at 1,400 meters, located directly below the sunny terrace of the Hochmuth restaurant. The pilot will meticulously prepare the high-quality wing and harness while explaining the simple takeoff sequence. Just a few steps of running on the grassy alpine slope are enough to lift you effortlessly into the air.
Once airborne, you will find yourself weightlessly gliding above treetops and open fields, experiencing the unique sensation of motorless flight and the remarkable silence of the mountains. From your comfortable seat in the harness, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Ortler Group, South Tyrol's highest peak, on one side, and the Jaufen Pass on the other. Depending on your preference, your pilot can keep the flight smooth and panoramic or add a touch of adrenaline with gentle aerobatic maneuvers, even letting you take the controls for a few moments.
This flight is accessible to everyone from the age of 5, provided they can perform a short run for takeoff. The experience concludes with a soft landing on a beautiful meadow right next to the cable car station, only 50 meters from the office. After landing, you can head to the office to view high-definition photos and videos of your flight, which can be transferred directly to your smartphone. With flights available from April to October, this paragliding experience is the perfect way to anchor your South Tyrolean holiday in memory. Book your tandem flight in Merano today!
