A 2-hour excursion in the Essaouira desert including:
- a session to discover sandboarding,
- a tour through the desert,
- a visit to a fishing village,
- a break over Moroccan tea, overlooking the ocean.
Course of events
- Meeting with the guide in front of Bab Marrakech, one of the main entrances to the Essaouira medina, 10 minutes before the start of the activity or pick-up at your accommodation in Essaouira
- Journey by 4x4 or minibus to the Essaouira desert, just a few kilometres from the town
- Arrival at the sandboard site
- Distribution of sandboarding equipment, followed by a briefing on the activity and safety instructions
- Sandboarding on the dunes, facing the Atlantic Ocean
- Return of sandboarding equipment
- Exploration in the Essaouira desert
- Visit to a fishing village
- Break over Moroccan tea and biscuits, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
- Return journey to Essaouira and end of the activity
Activity requirements
All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in the sandboarding activity.
Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the departure time.
A minimum number of 2 participants is required to run this activity.

If you have already done a tour of the medina and are looking for something to do other than laze on the city's beaches, this discovery tour of the Essaouira desert with sandboarding and cultural immersion is sure to meet your expectations. For 2 hours, all you will have to do is follow your local guide who will collect you from your accommodation in Essaouira or in front of the Bab Marrakech, aboard a minibus or 4x4, and head off into the desert for a unique experience.
The adventure will begin at dunes facing the Atlantic for a discovery session of sandboarding in Essaouira, an activity consisting of descending the dunes using a board similar to a snowboard. Whether you have tried sandboarding before or it is your first time, no experience is required. What's more, instructors will be on hand to supervise you and ensure your safety while you are having fun!
Once your sandboarding session is over, your excursion in the Essaouira desert will continue with a tour in the desert to discover its superb landscapes. You will then head off to a small fishing village, an authentic place where you can immerse yourself in local life by observing the inhabitants in their daily routine.
