This summer whale watching boat tour from Andenes starts in a small town located on the northern tip of the island of Andøya in the Vesterålen archipelago in Norway. Vesterålen is located just north of the famous Lofoten Islands, and is a haven for wildlife activities such as whale and bird watching!
This whale watching boat tour from Andenes begins at the Andenes harbour, where you'll find an Arctic Whale Tours sign. There, you'll check in with the crew at least 45 minutes before your departure time, and then board the 26-metre (85-foot) catamaran ship. The boat is equipped with a spacious outdoor deck and comfortable indoor seating, as well as toilets for your comfort. You'll be greeted on board the boat by the experienced guide and captain before sailing off on your whale watching safari!
The captain will set sail towards Bleik Canyon, which is a massive underwater canyon located off the coast of Andøya. It is one of the deepest and most impressive marine canyons in the North Atlantic, plunging to depths of over 1,500 metres (4,921 feet). The canyon is known for its rich biodiversity and is a prime location for whale watching. The sperm whale is most often sighted in this area. From your position in the boat, you'll be able to encounter different whale species and watch them peacefully in their natural habitat.
You may spot long-finned pilot whales, minke whales, orca or killer whales, humpback whales, Atlantic white-sided dolphins, white-beaked dolphins, or fin whales. The knowledgeable guide will share insights about these fascinating creatures as you encounter them. On the way back to Andenes, you'll enjoy a delicious meal of hot fish or vegetarian soup with bread, made from locally sourced products. Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate and biscuits will also be served. The boat trip in Vesterålen passes by incredible coastal landscapes, such as dramatic mountains, unique islands, and deep fjords you'll get to enjoy.
On the return journey, you may also encounter some Arctic birds, such as puffins, as they head towards the nearby Bleik Island. Thousands of puffins nest on the island every summer. Other common species often spotted in this area include harbour seals, white-tailed eagles and kittiwakes. At the end of this summer whale watching boat tour in Vesterålen, you'll return to the starting point in Andenes with wonderful memories.
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime whale watching boat safari from Andenes to Bleik Canyon in Vesterålen! You won't regret it.
