Course of events
Please allow approximately 4 hours for this activity in total. The canyoning itself takes between 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on group size and other conditions.
- Get picked up from your accommodation in Porto or Aveiro, or arrive at the designated meeting point.
- Meet your guide and transfer to the canyon location (20 min)
- Receive a safety briefing and collect your equipment.
- Begin your canyoning experience in the Frades River, covering approximately 3 km.
- Traverse waterfalls, rappel down cliffs (up to 13 meters high), cross a 20-meter zip line, and enjoy optional jumps.
- Return to the meeting point, then drive back in your car or take the transfer service to your accommodation.
Activity requirements
The minimum weight for this activity is 30kg and the maximum 115kg.
The minimum height is 135cm and the maximum 205cm.
All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity.

Accompanied by professional guides, you’ll journey through narrow gorges, cascading waterfalls, and natural water slides on a 3-kilometre route along the Vessadas River. Expect to rappel down cliffs as high as 13 meters, enjoy an exhilarating 20-meter zip line, and try optional jumps along the way. The number of jumps, abseils, and waterfalls can vary depending on water levels and group dynamics, making each descent a unique experience.
Before the adventure begins, you’ll meet your guide at the designated point or be picked up directly from your accommodation in Porto or Aveiro. After a short 20-minute drive to the canyon, you’ll stop at a local coffee shop (with toilets available) before receiving a full safety briefing and getting your gear. The canyoning activity itself lasts between 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on the group size and weather conditions, with the total experience taking around 4 hours.
During the descent, you’ll spend plenty of time in the water, crossing small lagoons and navigating through pools, with short swims of no more than 10 meters. The water temperature typically ranges between 10 and 20°C, depending on the season. Once the adventure is complete, you’ll return to the meeting point, where you can either drive back in your own car or take the provided transfer back to your accommodation. Please note that personal belongings should be left in your vehicle before the activity.
