Go wild in the Western Cape on an exciting overnight safari from Cape Town! Travel off the beaten track to search for Africa’s Big Five in a malaria-free reserve. With an expert game ranger by your side, you will explore rugged landscapes and interact with incredible wildlife on this immersive 2-day journey.
Day 1: Cape Town – 4x4 Safari – Oudtshoorn
our adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Cape Town or Stellenbosch, usually between 6 am and 8 am. Leaving the silhouette of Table Mountain behind, you will trade the city for the scenery of the Klein Karoo as you head toward private game reserves near Oudtshoorn and the Garden Route. The journey covers approximately 450 km (about 5 hours) and includes rest stops along the way.
Upon arrival at a malaria-free reserve situated between Mossel Bay and George, you will head out on a game drive in an open 4x4 vehicle. Search for giraffe, white rhino, kudu, lion, elephant, zebra, and wildebeest while your experienced ranger shares insights on the local wildlife, birdlife, and ecology. You will end the day traveling through rugged plains and towering cliffs to reach Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, where you will spend the evening at leisure and stay overnight on-site.
Day 2: Oudtshoorn - Karoo Region - Cape Town
Start your second day with a morning bush drive in an open-aired 4x4 at Buffelsdrift, a private reserve on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn. With a private ranger at the wheel, you will learn about the arid landscape and the animals that call it home, including buffalo, rhino, giraffe, and smaller residents like meerkats, caracals, or aardvarks. For those seeking a closer encounter, you can choose to join an optional Elephant Observation activity (additional fees apply) to see rescued elephants roaming freely near a waterhole.
After your safari experience, the return journey takes you along Route 62, the longest wine route in the world! This famous country road offers stunning views of high mountains, vineyards, and orchards. The approximately 6-hour drive includes lunch and rest stops at local farm stalls before you arrive back in Cape Town by late evening.
Don't hesitate and join this exciting 2-day safari departing from Cape Town!
