The Camino de Santiago de Compostela, or the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrims' routes that connects different spots around Europe with the shrine of the apostle James at the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Galicia. This pilgrimage route has existed since the 10th century AD and has attracted believers, nature and hiking enthusiasts, and people searching for spiritual growth since its foundation. The path is usually travelled on foot, through mixed terrain that passes lots of small towns that receive the pilgrims for a night or two before they continue their path.
On the day of your hiking excursion in the Camino de Santiago, you'll need to meet your Local Experts Tours instructor at the Kursaal Auditorium ticket office in San Sebastián. You'll get to choose between a small group, private, or medium-sized group experience, to be sure that you can participate in a way that makes you comfortable and is within your budget. There, they'll explain exactly how the activity will work and what you need to do to stay safe throughout the day. Once everyone is ready, it's time to go!
You'll set off from Donostia and hike toward Mount Ulía, following well-travelled paths marked by scallop shells. You'll make stops at some stunning natural balconies to enjoy stunning views of the ocean and the cliffs bordering the coast. After approximately 10 kilometres of walking, you'll arrive at San Pedro, a beautiful fishing harbour. You'll recharge your energy with a delicious pintxo (small Spanish snack, not included for medium-sized groups) and a drink, before catching a private vehicle that will drive you back to San Sebastián.
