Kiruna, the northernmost town in Sweden, lies within the Arctic Circle and the Lapland region, right on the borders of Norway and Finland. It is home to the original ICEHOTEL, a one-of-a-kind accommodation built entirely from ice and snow. This world-famous attraction features stunning ice sculptures and offers guests an unforgettable Arctic experience. Kiruna is also an ideal destination for snowmobiling, so if you’re wondering whether to visit the ICEHOTEL or ride a snowmobile through the Lappish wilderness—we say, do both!
Your snowmobiling adventure to the ICEHOTEL begins in Kiruna, where you’ll meet your experienced guide. After a safety briefing and demonstration, you’ll be equipped to drive your own snowmobile. Each machine is shared between two participants, with one driver and one passenger, and the opportunity to switch midway through the tour. The excursion is family-friendly, with children riding comfortably in a sled pulled by the guide, and requires no prior experience. Once dressed in warm Arctic gear, you’ll set off into the snowy forests.
Snowmobiling in Kiruna is an exhilarating way to explore the winter landscape. You’ll speed across untouched trails, through forests, over frozen lakes, and along the frozen Torne River, immersing yourself in the magic of Swedish Lapland. A stop in a traditional wooden hut provides a cozy break around a campfire, with snacks and hot drinks to warm up.
The highlight of the tour is the visit to the world-renowned ICEHOTEL, located in the small village of Jukkasjärvi just outside Kiruna. Rebuilt every year during the winter months, this seasonal marvel is crafted from ice blocks harvested from the nearby Torne River. Explore individually themed ice rooms, including an ice bar, an ice chapel perfect for weddings, and beautifully sculpted common areas. All rooms are kept at sub-zero temperatures to maintain the structure. After your guided tour, you’ll return to the starting point in Kiruna.
Don’t miss this ultimate winter adventure combining the thrill of snowmobiling with the wonder of the ICEHOTEL—an unforgettable experience in the heart of Swedish Lapland!
