What are the activities to do in Stockholm?

Many people assosiate Stockholm with minimalist Scandinavian design, the Swedish Royal Palace, and sub-zero temperatures. While the city certainly has all of those things, there are many things to explore Stockholm!

When visiting Sweden's capital, most travelers make a point of exploring the the oldest heart of the city, known as Old Town and Gamla Stan. Founded in the 13th century, Stockholm boasts an impressive and diverse array of architecture from Medieval to Neoclassical, Art Deco and the resolutely modern. Distinctly Scandinavian in style, many of the historic buildings are painted in various shades of ochre.

Stockholm, the Venice of the North

The city is made up of 14 islands and is connected with over 50 bridges, making it so picturesque that you almost feel as if you're in a fairy tale! It's proximity to the water makes it an ideal place to swim, sea kayak, ice skate, or go speed boating. If you partake in any of these activities, you’re likely to be mistaken for an actual Swede, as it’s exactly what they do for fun as well!

The Birthplace of the Nobel Prize

Most people have heard of the Nobel Peace Prize, but not many know that Stockholm is its birthplace! Named after Alfred Nobel, who was a Swedish inventor and industrialist that made a fortune after patenting dynamite that was safer to handle. In his will, he left the equivalent of 179 million euros to be spent rewarding those that have contributed to the betterment of society. Today, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to only the greatest and most benevolent of minds. You can learn more about the award's history and its renowned recipients by visiting Stockholm's Nobel Prize Museum.

This is the way to travel- Sault & Thigo were thorough in setting us up for the trip, showing us how to prepare the kayaks (& ourselves:) & explaining the safety issues. Then, on the water, they pointed out all the birds we were seeing - e.g., geese, eider duck, plummeting terns. I loved it from start to finish. On the wooded island we stopped at, they made us a lovely lunch of cheesey pies & salad, drinks & dessert if you wanted it. Some of us even took a wee dunk in the sea, which was properly invigorating (as you might expect from the Baltic:) & so ensured a power-paddle back to Dalabro, the starting point. The only downer was that it ended! I would love to do a multi-day trip.

Our 1 hour RIB speedboat tour showcased a beautiful somewhat off-the-beaten-path side of Stockholm while providing fun on the water for our entire family.
