Discover the difference the tide makes on this easy and accessible coasteering course along Newquay's iconic Gazzle Headland or Adventure Gulley route.

A rugged shoreline that has become a sheltered sanctuary to over 80 different species of flora and fauna, this unique coasteering course has been organised in partnership with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to offer you an ecology-focused coasteering adventure at low tide. Overlooked by the iconic 19th-century Headland Hotel, the rocky outcrop is punctuated by old smugglers' caves and home to the area's resident seal population - the perfect adventure & active learning combo.

Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base on Towan beach for a two-hour coasteering excursion. Setting out at low tide, this eco-friendly route is designed for children and big kids from 8 years old. Once kitted out you will be given a full safety briefing and comprehensive instruction about correct coasteering techniques - learning how to enter and exit the water, traverse the cliff lines and wild swim safely between sections, before heading down to Town Heads craggy rocks. As the tide recedes the mystical deep reveals a completely new and adventurous route. You’ll climb through smugglers caves now home to friendly grey seals, traverse the rocky outcrops and glide through natural rapids onto new sections of the route. Your instructor will also take a collection of bin bags along so you can perform your very own mini beach clean and help sustainably manage the coastline for the future.

Conditions
Coasteering combines sea swimming, low-level climbing, traversing, natural rapid riding and ledge leaps into deep water plunge pools. Low tide coasteering routes are an exploration of the craggy intertidal zone along the shoreline, so you will need to bring a pair of lace-up shoes with hard soles.
