Activity requirements
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before your departure time as indicated in the itinerary.
All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
A moderate level of physical condition is necessary to participate in this activity.
Special terms
Your instructor offers a transportation service to the meeting point from Inari, Nellim, Kakslauttanen, Kiilopää and Saariselkä for 20€ per person. If you are interested in booking it, please get in touch with your instructor once your reservation is confirmed to agree on a meeting time and place.
Please note that the duration and itinerary of the activity depend on weather conditions. Due to unforeseen meteorological occurrences, your itinerary might be shorter or take a different path than usual for your safety.
Since wildlife is unpredictable, their presence is never guaranteed.
If the weather is expected to be below -25 degrees Celsius on the programmed date and time of your adventure, your instructor will reschedule or cancel the experience.
Thermal suits, boots, and mittens are available to participants on-site, but you should still come prepared with sturdy winter clothing.

Ivalo, located in Finland0s northernmost region, Finnish Lapland, is perfect for experiencing this amazing sport, thanks to its wild, untamed, Arctic surroundings that get covered in snow every year during the winter.
On the day of your backcountry skiing excursion from Ivalo, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point in the Xwander Nordic headquarters. You can also hire your instructor's transportation service from Inari, Nellim, Kakslauttanen, Kiilopää and Saariselkä, for 20 euros per person. Once you get there, your instructor will distribute the thermal overalls, boots, and mittens they lend you to keep warm during the experience. Then, it's time to head to the starting point of the experience!
Upon arrival, your instructor will distribute the skis and poles, show you how to put them on, and teach you a few techniques to wade easily through the snow. When you feel sturdy on your skis, it's time to go! You'll experience the incredible winter wonderland of Finnish Lapland as you trek deeper and deeper into its landscapes. Your instructor will teach you about animal tracks and how to identify what animal they belong to, and if you're lucky, you'll even get to observe them in their natural environment! At a spot of your instructor's choosing, you'll stop, set up a temporary camp, and have a delicious and traditional outdoor lunch, the perfect way to enjoy the peaceful Arctic atmosphere before returning to the original meeting point for the end of the experience.
Keep in mind that the temperature in the Arctic can range between 5 and -30 degrees Celsius. If the temperature drops below -25 degrees Celsius, your instructor will reschedule or cancel the activity. If not, you'll need to be prepared for the cold temperatures with wool or thermal under layers, fleece or more wool middle layers, and windproof and waterproof outerwear to protect you. You should also bring a hat, scarf, snow boots, gloves, and anything else you might need (medicine, extra snacks, water, etc.) to spend around 2 hours on this backcountry skiing excursion from Ivalo.
