Nature enthusiasts will love this wonderful snowshoeing excursion from Ylläs to Mount Kesänki in the Arctic landscapes of Finnish Lapland! Ylläs is very well-known for its amazing ski resort, which takes advantage of the fell's height (719 m/2.359 ft) to enchant sporty visitors. Whether you're visiting Äkäslompolo, on the north side of the fell, or Ylläsjärvi, on the south, you'll have the incredible opportunity to enjoy the wild, snowy, and frozen landscapes of Finnish Lapland in diverse activities such as snowmobiling, Northern Lights chases, and, of course, snowshoeing.
On the day of your snowshoeing excursion from Ylläs to Mount Kesänki, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point in the Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas parking. There, you'll be welcomed by your Nordx Adventures instructor, who will fit you for snowshoes and poles, and then give you a quick instructional on how to walk with the equipment, as well as a few safety precautions to keep in mind. Once you're all geared up and ready, your instructor will drive you toward the starting point of the excursion.
Once your feet are on the snow, it will be time to go! You'll spend 4 hours trekking through approximately 6 kilometres of snowy forest and fell, following your expert instructor. They'll teach you how to recognise different types of animal tracks, and, if you're lucky, you'll even get to spot some Arctic wildlife yourself. around midway through the excursion, you'll take a break at a traditional Finnish kota, and sit around an open fire to share some light snacks and hot drinks with your instructor to regain your strength. If the weather permits it, you'll then continue the excursion toward the top of Mount Kesänki, where you'll enjoy the panoramic views of the Ylläs fells, before making a relaxed and gentle descent back to where this amazing snowshoeing excursion from Ylläs started.
Keep in mind that the Arctic and Finnish Lapland can have temperatures that range from 5 to -30 degrees Celsius, so you should come prepared for the freezing temperatures. Your instructor offers winter overall rentals, but you should still bring wind and waterproof outerwear, thermal or wool underlayers, extra middle layers, gloves, snow boots, a hat, a scarf, and anything else you might need to spend around 4 hours snowshoeing up Mount Kesänki.
