Practical information

An introduction to spearfishing in Tikehau, in the lagoon or the Tuheiava Pass, lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour.

If you wish, you can take home your catch of the day
Swimming in water hovering around 27°C all year round
Small groups of up to 6 participants for an introduction to the activity tailored to your pace

Course of events

Please allow up to 2.5 hours for the whole experience.

Pick-up from your accommodation in the main village of Tikehau by car or from your hotel/boarding house by boat (excluding accommodation too far away)
Welcome to the dive centre, where there are toilets, changing rooms and showers
Distribution of snorkelling gear and equipment
Briefing on the activity and safety instructions
Boarding the boat
Sail to the spearfishing site in the lagoon or the Tuheiava Pass (approx. 30 minutes)
Launch for 30 minutes to 1 hour of introduction to spearfishing
Back on board the boat, enjoy a hot drink and a light snack
Navigation back to the dive centre (approx. 30 minutes)
De-equipping and debriefing of the experience on the terrace with the distribution of the catch of the day, which you can take away with you
Transfer back to your accommodation in Tikehau and end of the activity

All participants must know how to swim to take part in this activity.

Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in this activity.

A minimum number of 2 participants is required to run this activity.

Practical information

A guided snorkelling excursion in Tikehau comprising 4 stops: the manta ray cleaning station, the Tuheiava Pass, where you will discover spearfishing, the coral garden and the open sea to look for dolphins.

Swimming in water hovering around 27°C all year round
Manta rays can be seen all year round, but with a greater chance of sightings between April and October
If conditions allow (sea conditions, animal behaviour, etc.), it is possible to go into the open sea to snorkel with dolphins

Course of events

Please allow up to 5.5 hours for the whole experience.

Pick-up from your accommodation in the main village of Tikehau by car or from your hotel/boarding house by boat (excluding accommodation too far away)
Welcome to the dive centre, where there are toilets, changing rooms and showers
Distribution of snorkelling gear and equipment
Briefing on the activity and safety instructions
Boarding the boat
Sail to the manta ray cleaning station (approx. 10 minutes)
Launch for 30 minutes to 1 hour of introduction to spearfishing and snorkelling
Sail to Tuheiava Pass (approx. 30 minutes)
Launch for 30 minutes to 1 hour of snorkelling
Back on board the boat, enjoy a hot drink and a light snack
Launch for 30 minutes to 1 hour of snorkelling in the coral garden
Sail out to sea (approximately 5 minutes) to search for dolphins
If dolphins are encountered and conditions are optimal, you may be able to enter the water to snorkel with the dolphins
Navigation back to the dive centre (approx. 30 minutes)
De-equipping and debriefing of the experience on the terrace with the distribution of the catch of the day, which you can take away with you
Transfer back to your accommodation in Tikehau and end of the activity

About the activity

When you think of French Polynesia, its lagoons and its countless fish, it is easy to imagine diving, harpoon in hand, and going hunting underwater like a true local. However, this activity is not as simple as it seems, and requires not only concentration but also a certain ease of movement in the water. And what better way to find out than to try your hand at spearfishing in Tikehau during a dedicated outing, alongside professionals who will teach you the basics of this amazing sport? Get ready to spend 30 minutes to 1 hour enjoying a memorable activity, and what's more, in the magnificent setting of the Tuamotus!

For this discovery of spearfishing in Tikehau, you will sail to a spot in the lagoon or to the Tuheiava Pass, where you will find plenty of fish to catch. Before launching into the water with fins, mask and snorkel, your guide will explain how the harpoon works and how to use it safely underwater. Once you have learnt the basics, you will need to be patient and keep still so as not to frighten your future catch! Concentration and observation will be key to aiming accurately, and at the end of the activity, leaving with your freshly caught fish.
