Located on the northern coast of Iceland, Húsavík is one of Europe's main whale-watching hubs. Skjálfandi Bay is a unique natural wonder created by glacier activity and with fjord-like characteristics. It expands from Húsavík and is home to several species of whales, dolphins, and bird species. Animal and nature lovers will adore this incredible natural spectacle. Just make sure be ready for the thrill of speeding over the bay and bring warm, windproof, and waterproof clothes to protect you from Iceland's Arctic air.
Iceland's whale capital, Húsavík, is the starting point for whale-watching excursions in Skjálfandi Bay, as well as puffins on Lundey Island, also known as Puffin Island, in season (April to August). Sheltered by the mountains of the Tjörnes peninsula, Skjálfandi Bay is one of Iceland's most popular whale-watching areas, home to humpback and blue whales, as well as other cetaceans such as porpoises, white-beaked dolphins and minke whales.
Aboard a 12-seater RIB boat, the ideal way to search for animals in the bay, this whale-watching adventure from Húsavík will first take you to Puffin Island in season to admire thousands of puffins, those adorable birds nicknamed the "clowns of the ocean". Next, it will be time for the long-awaited search for whales, which are not at all uncommon here! Protected from the cold and the water throughout the outing by special overalls, you will spend around 2 hours at sea alongside a captain and guide who will comment on the excursion. You'll have the possibility to observe blue whales and even some acrobatic humpback whales that will make the experience unforgettable.
Take the plunge and meet the world's largest marine mammals by booking your whale-watching excursion from Húsavík now, with a seasonal stop off at the incredible Puffin Island! You won't regret it.
