Iceland's whale capital, Húsavík is the starting point for whale-watching excursions in Skjálfandi Bay, as well as puffins on Lundey Island, also known as Puffin Island, in season (April to August). Sheltered by the mountains of the Tjörnes peninsula, Skjálfandi Bay is one of Iceland's most popular whale-watching areas, home to humpback and blue whales, as well as other cetaceans such as porpoises, white-beaked dolphins and minke whales.

Aboard a 12-seater RIB boat, the ideal way to search for animals in the bay, the adventure will first take you to Puffin Island in season to admire thousands of puffins, those adorable birds nicknamed the clowns of the ocean. Then it will be time for the long-awaited search for whales, which are not at all uncommon here! Protected from the cold and the water throughout the outing by special overalls, you will spend around 2 hours at sea alongside a captain and guide who will comment on the excursion.

Although we booked a trip to whales and puffins we did not visit puffin island. Maybe the puffins have left the place we were not informed of this.
