Once you're all geared up and comfortably installed in the boat, it's time to go! You'll speed across the water toward the king crab harbor and get the opportunity to observe the stunning, rugged coastline of the Altafjord while your expert instructor tells you interesting stories and historical dacts about the region. You'll also learn about the Alta rock carvings, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to more than 6000 prehistoric carvings and paintings, discovered in 1973 in the Alta Fjord. Once you arrive at the harbor, you'll enter a state-of-the-art aquarium to finally meet the star of the show: the king crab! You'll be able to get close to them and learn about their journey from the Barents Sea to the local restaurants and around the world. Keep in mind that this activity takes place in a RIB boat, which is essentially a rubber speedboat, which has no cover from the elements and the Arctic cold, which is why your instructor provides high-quality winter apparel. With that in mind, you should remember to bring bring very warm layers to wear under the thermal suit, including wool or thermal underwear, extra layers on top, and even a wind and waterproof jacket that you'll wear under the suit.
