At an altitude of 669 metres, Lion's Head is one of Cape Town's must-see rock peaks, with its summit offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including Table Mountain, Robben Island, Signal Hill, Camps Bay, Clifton and the Cape Peninsula. It is accessible via 2 different hiking trails, one rather gradual and ideal for enjoying exceptional panoramas while making the ascent, the other more direct and therefore requiring more effort. In both cases, the best option is to be accompanied by a local guide, who will be able to advise you on the best route to take to reach the summit in complete safety, while providing informative commentary on the local flora and fauna. The other bonus of this guided adventure? The chance to watch the sun rise or set from Lion's Head!
The Cape Summit Adventures team will pick you up directly from your accommodation in town, either at dawn or in the late afternoon, depending on your choice, to take you to the starting point of the Lion's Head hike. The trail you take will be chosen according to the overall level of your small group (up to 6 participants per guide), taking you to the summit in 60 to 90 minutes of walking, including a few photo breaks. Once you have reached the top, you will have 30 to 45 minutes to enjoy a breathtaking view of either the Cape Town sunrise or the Atlantic Ocean sunset. Prepare to be awestruck by the sublime landscapes around you, which will be decked out in shimmering colours, giving them a whole new look!
This Lion's Head sunrise/sunset hike in Cape Town can be enjoyed all year round, although conditions are best between September and May (light, temperature, etc.). It is sure to provide some incredible memories in any case! What's more, you will finish the experience at the starting point of the hike, with no transfer back to your accommodation, so you can stay in the area if you wish and/or head to another part of the city to continue your visit by Uber!
