Practical information
Looking for a refreshing outdoor experience during your stay on the Costa Brava? Water trekking might be just what you need. Often described as the gentler cousin of canyoning, this activity combines river hiking, natural slides, easy jumps, and a touch of scrambling, all at your own pace and without the need for ropes or technical skills.
Ideal for beginners and families, water trekking is all about exploring riverbeds and wading through crystal-clear streams, with plenty of opportunities to swim, play, and enjoy nature along the way. It’s a safe, guided experience that doesn’t require any previous experience - just a sense of curiosity and the ability to swim!
This particular adventure takes place in the heart of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, one of the most unique natural settings in Spain. Nestled in the province of Girona, this protected area is home to 38 volcanic cones and around 20 lava flows, shaped over thousands of years by geological activity and water erosion. The Fluvià River flows through the park, carving out lush gorges, dense forests like the Fageda d'en Jordà, and striking cliffside villages such as Castellfollit de la Roca.
From the meeting point, your certified guide will drive you into the park, provide all necessary equipment, and explain how to move safely through the water. You’ll then follow the river on foot, discovering playful sections with pools, small rapids, and natural rock formations.
No ropes, no big jumps, just a fun and refreshing way to connect with nature. Whether you're with friends, your partner, or the whole family, this is the perfect introduction to river adventures in Girona.
