On the day of your Northern Lights hike in Abisko Valley, you'll need to arrive at the Abisko.net reception, where your guide ensures everyone is properly dressed and ready for the night. Depending on weather and snow conditions, the guides will adapt the route and provide snowshoes if needed.
Together with your guide, and a few of their friendly retired Alaskan huskies, you will hike through the landscapes of Abisko Valley, following quiet trails beneath the Arctic sky. The retired huskies have spent years working in the mountains, and Abisko Hikes care for them throughout their entire lives. After their working years, they remain an important part of the team — still active, social, and always happy to join new adventures.
The hike covers approximately 4 km roundtrip, including a gentle uphill section leading to an open viewpoint with wide views of the sky, ideal for watching the northern lights. Along the way, you will stop at scenic locations and your guide shares tips for photographing the aurora. You'll then continue to a traditional lávvu (tipi tent), where you can warm up by the fire, enjoy a hot drink, and taste Swedish cinnamon buns warmed over the fire. When conditions allow, the team can also light a fire outside — a perfect place to gather beneath the Arctic sky.
When the time is right, you will make your way back to the village, following the glow of our headlamps — and with a bit of luck, beneath dancing northern lights.
