About the activity

Located in northern Sweden (Swedish Lapland), at the foot of the Scandinavian Alps, Abisko National Park is a pristine natural area covering 77 km² of mountains, lakes and forests, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to its geographical position north of the Arctic Circle and its distance from any light pollution, it is an exceptional place to try and witness the Northern Lights near Kiruna. What’s more, if you stay in the region for more than 3 days, you will have at least an 80% chance of seeing them! And to maximise your chances even further, why not join this guided Northern Lights chase in Abisko National Park, alongside professionals who know exactly where to take you depending on the weather forecast?

This must-do experience in northern Sweden takes place aboard a heated bus that will drive you to one of the best spots for observing the Northern Lights around Abisko. From the shores of Lake Torneträsk and the summit of a mountain near the Norwegian border to a remote fishing village, there is no shortage of stunning locations to catch sight of this marvellous phenomenon, all within 100 km of Abisko and Björkliden! Once you arrive at the viewing site, you will enjoy waiting with a hot drink in hand, as your guide shares insights about the Northern Lights and the history of the national park, established in 1909. And if you are lucky enough to see those beautiful, dancing colours appear across the starry sky, your guide will be delighted to give you tips on how best to photograph them!

Between awe and tranquillity under the star-filled skies of Swedish Lapland, this Northern Lights hunt in Abisko promises an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the polar night, even if the elusive phenomenon doesn’t show itself. So don’t hesitate any longer and join this nocturnal escapade to learn more about the magical Aurora Borealis!

The Northern Lights hunt with Lights Over Lapland was fantastic! Joey was amazing – fun, patient, and really made the experience enjoyable. The spot we went to was perfect, and the atmosphere was great. The explanations were clear and interesting, and the fika and fire were a much-welcome touch to keep us warm. We were lucky that night and got to see the aurora in all its glory! Highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to see the Northern Lights!
