Rhodes, the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, is a destination where the elements of sky, sea, and land converge in striking harmony. Paragliding in Rhodes offers a rare perspective on this storied island, where ancient acropolises rise above olive groves and sun-bleached cliffs tumble into the Aegean’s shimmering blue. The island’s varied coastline, from the golden arc of Tsambika Beach to the dramatic headlands near Lindos, creates a patchwork of launch sites and landing zones, each revealing a different facet of Rhodes’ natural beauty. Here, the Mediterranean light is ever-present, illuminating the contours of pine forests and medieval villages, while the gentle sea breeze carries the scent of wild herbs and saltwater. For those seeking both adventure and immersion in the island’s timeless atmosphere, paragliding in Rhodes is an invitation to experience freedom above a landscape shaped by centuries of history and sun.

Taking flight in Rhodes is both exhilarating and serene. Most paragliding experiences begin on the island’s eastern slopes, where thermals rise steadily from the warm earth and the terrain falls away towards the coast. After a smooth takeoff, you’ll find yourself suspended in silence, the only sounds the soft rush of air and the distant call of gulls. Below, the contrasts are striking: the deep blue of the Aegean, the pale sand of secluded beaches, and the green mosaic of citrus groves and cypress trees. Flights typically last between fifteen and thirty minutes, depending on weather and chosen route, with options ranging from gentle tandem glides above Afandou Bay to more dynamic flights over the rugged hills near Prasonisi. The sensation is a balance of calm observation and pure adrenaline, as moments of quiet suspension alternate with sweeping turns and gentle descents. Whether soaring above the ancient ruins of Lindos or tracing the coastline towards Faliraki, each flight reveals new textures and colours unique to Rhodes.

Local guides in Rhodes are passionate outdoor professionals, deeply familiar with the island’s microclimates and terrain. All instructors are fully licensed and prioritise safety, providing modern paragliding equipment that is meticulously maintained. The outdoor culture in Rhodes is welcoming and inclusive, with guides eager to share their knowledge of local winds, geography, and traditions. Accessibility is a key focus, with most launch sites reachable by vehicle and clear communication throughout the experience. Rhodes enjoys a long flying season, with the best conditions typically from April to October, when the weather is warm, skies are clear, and winds are steady. Paragliding here is accessible to beginners, thanks to tandem flights with experienced instructors, though a reasonable level of physical fitness is required for takeoff and landing. The activity appeals to a wide range of participants, from solo travellers seeking a new perspective to families and couples looking for a shared adventure. We tend to do this kind of activity in most countries we visit that offer it, but can honestly say this is one of the best we have done.

From start to finish the kayaking experience was so much fun. The boats were safe and easier to use, plenty of instructions provided before so I didn’t feel unsafe at any moment. The secluded beaches are gorgeous and we had plenty of time to swim and relax at each one. Lots of history and geography provided about certain places and formations. Wild goats would come down on the beach and if you’re careful and patient you may be able to feed them (they’re herbivores so only veg and fruit). Thank you to the instructor and team for an incredible experience.
