Gesäuse National Park, nestled in the heart of Austria’s Styria region, is a sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts seeking authentic adventure. The park’s dramatic limestone peaks, carved by the restless Enns River, create a landscape of deep gorges, emerald pools, and cascading waterfalls. Here, canyoning is more than a sport—it is an invitation to explore the wild pulse of the Alps, where sunlight flickers through narrow ravines and the air is tinged with the scent of moss and mountain water. The proximity to the historic town of Admont, with its famous abbey, and the surrounding Ennstal Alps, adds cultural depth to the natural spectacle, making Gesäuse a compelling destination for those drawn to both nature and heritage.

Canyoning in Gesäuse National Park is a dynamic journey through a world sculpted by water and time. Typical routes wind through the park’s iconic gorges, such as the Bruckgraben or the Nothklamm, where participants abseil down waterfalls, slide along smooth rock chutes, and leap into crystal-clear pools. The terrain is varied, with sections of serene, sun-dappled water contrasting with the rush of whitewater and the echo of distant birds. Most excursions last between three and five hours, offering a balance of adrenaline and quiet immersion in nature. The cool touch of alpine water, the rough texture of limestone underfoot, and the play of light on wet rock create a sensory-rich experience that is both invigorating and grounding.

We rented 2 rafts for 14 people (8 of them children aged between 7 and 13). We spent nice time with experienced and calm guides on each raft and were acompanied with other two guidess on cayaks. It made us feeling safer. We enjoyed everything - swimming in neoprens in the river, jumps, litzle promenade in a creek, games and specialy the cruise. Thanks a lot to Denis and his team!

Amazing views, not too extreme for a family with kids, but fun enough to feel adrenalin.
