What are the activities to do in Ayia Napa?

Ayia Napa, Cyprus

At sunrise, the turquoise waters around Ayia Napa seem to glow, lapping gently against pale limestone cliffs. By night, the village buzzes with energy, but it’s the surrounding coastline, sea caves and wild headlands that make Ayia Napa one of Cyprus’s most magnetic destinations for outdoor adventures.

Why Visit Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is often thought of as a lively seaside resort, yet beyond its vibrant nightlife lies an astonishing natural setting. Located on the island’s southeastern coast, this small town is framed by golden beaches, protected nature reserves and ancient ruins. Local Tips

The summer sun in Cyprus can be intense, so pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen and a hat. Water shoes can be handy when exploring the sea caves, as the rocks can be sharp. If you’re planning to hike, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Local culture values respect for nature, so take care not to disturb wildlife or leave rubbish behind, particularly in the Cape Greco protected area. Outside the busy centre Ayia Napa still retains a traditional village feel, so a friendly “kalimera” (good morning) is always appreciated.

Best Time to Visit

Ayia Napa enjoys a long beach season. April to June is perfect for mild weather and blooming landscapes, ideal for hiking and exploring before the peak crowds arrive. July and August are the hottest months, great for water-based activities but also the busiest. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, September and October offer warm seas and softer light, perfect for photography and quieter beaches. Even in winter, temperatures are mild, though some activities and restaurants may be limited.

How to Get There

The nearest airport to Ayia Napa is Larnaca International Airport, around 45 minutes by car. You can hire a car directly from the airport or take a shared shuttle or taxi. Public buses also run between Larnaca and Ayia Napa, though they may take longer. If you’re travelling from Nicosia, the drive takes around 1 hour, and from Paphos, about 2 hours. Having your own transport makes it easier to reach hidden beaches and Cape Greco’s trails.
