Discover one of the best canyoning spots in the Azores with this unforgettable experience at Salto do Cabrito, near Ribeira Grande on the island of São Miguel.

Often referred to as the "Hawaii of Europe," São Miguel is the largest island of the Azores archipelago. Known for its crater lakes, geothermal activity, and green valleys, it's a paradise for adventure seekers, and canyoning is one of the most thrilling ways to experience it.

Located just 30 minutes from Ponta Delgada, the Salto do Cabrito canyon winds through a dramatic volcanic landscape of waterfalls, hot springs, and lush forest. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or simply looking for an exciting way to explore the Azores, this canyoning adventure is the perfect mix of nature, challenge, and adrenaline.

Once you arrive at the starting point, you will have a short 30-minute walk through the forest to arrive to the starting point of the canyon.

Once geared up with all the necessary equipment (harness, helmet, wetsuit, socks, and boots) and briefed on safety, the descent begins! Over the next 3 hours, you’ll explore the canyon by rappelling down waterfalls (between 4 and 16 meters high), navigating volcanic terrain, and splashing through clear mountain streams. Depending on the season and conditions, the route may also include optional jumps of around 3 meters and even an exhilarating zip-line section for the more adventurous.

The route is circular, meaning you'll return to the starting point, making logistics easy and efficient. Throughout the activity, your instructor will guide you step by step, ensuring both safety and fun from start to finish.

This canyoning tour is accessible to beginners with a moderate to good level of fitness, and involves walking on uneven and slippery terrain, muddy slopes, and small scrambles. The exact itinerary may vary slightly depending on weather and water conditions, ensuring a dynamic and immersive adventure every time.

Don’t miss this opportunity to dive into one of São Miguel’s most scenic canyons, and experience the wild beauty of the Azores like never before!
