Discover the stunning landscapes of northeastern São Miguel as you hike, climb, jump, and swim among its waterfalls on this amazing canyoning ascent in Moinho do Félix! Moinho do Félix is a hiking trail located near Lomba de São Pedro in the north-east of the island of São Miguel in the Azores. It is one of the most beautiful trails on the island, surrounded by lush vegetation and old water mills. What better way to discover this stunning place than by diving straight into it? A canyoning ascent is a combined adventure that mixes hiking, climbing, jumping, and swimming in natural and remote environments, which offers you an amazing body-nature experience you'll never forget.
Accessible from the age of 6, this canyoning ascent excursion in São Miguel begins as you meet your instructor at the start of the Moinho do Félix hiking trail, at least 5 minutes before the set starting time. To arrive there, you can take a taxi or an Uber from Ponta Delgada (around 30 euros). They will welcome you and distribute the necessary equipment for the activity, which will include a Vade Retro or Seland wetsuit, a Petzel helmet, Adidas or Bestard shoes, socks, and a life jacket. You will then set off on a short 15-minute approach walk, during which the safety rules of the activity will be explained to you.
During your canyoning ascent in Moinho do Félix, you'll spend around 2.5 hours following your expert instructor up the river. Along the way, you'll find 6 waterfalls from 2 and 13 meters tall, and have the opportunity to decide how to get over them: walking, jumping, or climbing - it's up to you! You'll walk among Japanese cedar trees, Hedychium gardnerianum, Hydrangea, polypodiopsia, and platanus, making this a wonderful nature experience as well as a sporty one. You can swim and enjoy the refreshing waters of the river, but if you don't know how to swim or are uncomfortable with any of the obstacles you'll encounter, you can bypass them by walking.
Throughout the excursion, your guide will be on hand to accompany you, advise you, and ensure your safety. At the end of the activity, you'll be pleased with yourself and happy to have been able to discover Moinho do Félix by doing a canyoning ascent! Don't forget to wear your swimsuit to the experience and bring a towel, water bottle, and anything else you might need (medication, knee/ankle support, glasses, etc.) to enjoy this incredible canyoning ascent in São Miguel.
