This is a "self-drive" dog sledding ride, which means that, though there will be an expert to teach you how to drive the sled and direct the husky team, you will be driving it into the wilderness on your own.
Each sled can take up to 2 adults (one driver, one passenger). IF you are old enough, you can switch places at the stop during the excursion.
This activity is open to participants of all ages. However, if you are travelling with small children, please consider if they will be able to spend at least 1 hour sitting in the sled, out in the freezing conditions of Finnish Lapland. There will be no shortcuts to return to the dog kennel, so once you're on the sled, you will have to complete the ride.
Please note that the duration and itinerary of the activity depend on weather conditions. Due to unforeseen meteorological occurrences, your itinerary might be shorter or take a different path than usual for your safety.

Learn an ancient Arctic skill and explore the incredible landscapes of Finnish Lapland on this amazing dog sledding excursion from Rovaniemi! Encounter an authentic musher (dog sled driver), learn how they train and take care of their athletic and energetic huskies, and even get the chance to meet some adorable puppies if it's the season. In the Arctic, dog sledging has been used as a practical and efficient mode of transportation that can navigate difficult terrain without the need for excessive speed. Mushing, which is the traditional name for dog sledding, involves directing a team of well-trained dogs (usually huskies), so they can drive you through diverse Arctic landscapes. As the capital of Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi is a great place to try this wonderful sport, thanks to its easy accessibility and multiple husky kennels and farms in the surrounding wilderness.
On the day of your self-drive dog sledding excursion from Rovaniemi, you'll have the option to be picked up in certain spots around the city or you'll need to arrive at the meeting point at least 65 minutes before the starting time of the experience to prepare. Your instructor will drive you to the husky farm, meet the expert musher who will teach you how to handle the husky team, and start driving! Midway through the experience, you'll be able to stop, take pictures, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Arctic forest where the excursion usually takes place. And when you get back, you'll have the chance to visit around the Husky farm, enjoy some time with the dogs, and learn how they're trained and cared for before returning to Rovaniemi for the end of the experience.
Keep in mind that, although your instructor will lend you good-quality winter equipment, you should also come prepared with thermal layers and even a good windproof and waterproof jacket to wear under the suit if it's very cold outside.
