Wait for the sun to fall over the horizon and embark on a wonderful adventure under the stars on this evening backcountry skiing excursion in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park from Äkäslompolo! With an area of 1.020 square kilometres, Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is Finland's third-largest national park, located in the Finnish Lapland region. This wonderful natural park is defined by its chain of fells, taiga forests, and diverse Arctic wildlife.
On the day of your evening backcountry skiing excursion in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point in the Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas parking. There, you'll be welcomed by your Nordx Adventures instructor, who will distribute the backcountry skis and poles, and give you a few safety precautions to keep in mind. When you're ready, your instructor will drive you toward the starting point of the excursion.
Once you're all geared up and on-site, it's time to go! Your instructor will spend a moment teaching you how to handle the skis at night and even give you tips and tricks to take photos in the very dim light, before you set off into the Lappish wilderness. You'll spend around 3-5 hours trekking through the snowy forests and fells of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, following your expert instructor and making periodic stops to search for the Northern Lights when you find some open sky. Around midway through the excursion, you'll take a break at a forest shelter and sit around an open fire to share some light snacks and hot drinks with your instructor to regain your strength. If the Northern Lights or the stars are out, your instructor will help you to take some great pictures before returning to the original meeting point for the end of the experience.
Keep in mind that the Arctic and Finnish Lapland can have temperatures that range from 5 to -30 degrees Celsius, so you should come prepared for the freezing temperatures.
