This trip departs from Akureyri, a prominent town in northern Iceland, situated at the head of Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in the country. Tröllaskagi, or the Troll Peninsula, is a nearby mountainous and rugged peninsula, lying between the fjords of Eyjafjörður and Skagafjörður.

The guided tour to Tröllaskagi begins at the meeting point in Akureyri, where you'll be greeted by the experienced, friendly guide. After a quick itinerary briefing and overview, you'll start driving from Akureyri along the winding Eyjafjörður. The peninsula is cut by several deep valleys that were carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Now, several beautiful rivers meander through these valleys. As you drive along the Troll Peninsula, you'll be treated to mesmerising views of its glaciers and steep slopes. It is also home to some of Iceland's highest peaks, many exceeding 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) in elevation.

Along the way, you'll pass through several small fishing villages, including Dalvík, Ólafsfjörður and Siglufjörður. You'll stop at some of the striking black sand beaches also located in this area. On the way back to Akureyri, you'll stop in Hauganes, one of the oldest fishing villages in Eyjafjörður that is well-known for its connection to the sea. The small village is resided by a close-knit community of about 90 inhabitants. You'll see its wooden houses originating from 1882 and its historic harbour.

At Hauganes, you'll also visit its beautiful black sand beach and renowned outdoor hot tubs. You can take a dip in the refreshing waters of the Atlantic Ocean and heat up in the cosy hot tub while admiring unique panoramic views of the fjord. Afterwards, you'll visit the Baccalá bar restaurant in the village, where you can purchase a delicious meal. Then, the guide will drive you back to the starting point in Akureyri, where the Troll Peninsula road trip comes to an end.

Discover the magnificent fjords, mountains and villages along the Troll Peninsula on this immersive road trip from Akureyri!
