Far to the north of Sweden, just a short distance from the Scandinavian Alps, Kiruna offers the perfect setting for a dog sledding adventure this winter, surrounded by stunning Arctic landscapes. Between snow-covered forests, vast untouched plains and frozen rivers and lakes, the scenery around the town promises a full immersion into Swedish Lapland. And to make the experience accessible even if you are not staying in Kiruna itself, the team at Lights Over Lapland invites you to join this dog sledding excursion in Kiruna, departing from Abisko or Björkliden, with a convenient transfer included! It takes just 1 hour and 30 minutes by bus to reach the starting point of your sledding adventure, following a scenic route that passes through a few northern villages.
You will head to a camp in Oinakkavägen or Luossavaara, depending on the option you choose, very close to Kiruna, where a pack of Alaskan huskies will be eagerly waiting to meet you. All they want is to run through the snow, burning off energy while allowing you to marvel at the landscapes of Swedish Lapland and experience the unique thrill of a dog sled ride! To ensure a safe and comfortable outing, you will be seated in the sled as passengers only, with an experienced musher guiding the team of 8 to 12 dogs. Special cold-weather gear will also be provided (thermal suit, winter boots, hat and gloves), along with a reindeer skin to keep you warm throughout the journey.
In total, you will spend about an hour in the sled, which accommodates up to 4 people, with a mid-way stop planned around an open-air campfire or in a cosy teepee. During this break, you will have time to enjoy a traditional fika (a hot drink with a local pastry) as well as your own packed lunch or a lunch included, depending on the option chosen, and of course, take plenty of photos with your new four-legged friends, who will no doubt be delighted to receive your attention and cuddles. Both adults and children alike will melt at the sight of these adorable, energetic dogs!
Between the breathtaking snowy landscapes, the one-of-a-kind sensations, and the heart-warming moments spent with these charming Nordic dogs, this dog sledding excursion in Kiruna, with transfer from Abisko and Björkliden, promises unforgettable memories in the heart of Swedish Lapland. So, what are you waiting for?
