About the activity

Downstream from Victoria Falls, Batoka Gorge forms a superb narrow canyon through which flows the Zambezi, Africa's 4th longest river. Between the powerful flow of the river and the high walls that surround it, this site offers breathtaking scenery over several kilometres as far as the Batoka Gorge dam. And if you want to enjoy it on foot, while learning more about the region and its environment, there is nothing like a guided hike at Batoka Gorge from Victoria Falls! Accompanied by a local guide, you will have the pleasure of discovering the area not only through its landscapes, but also through its history, its flora and fauna, making for a truly immersive experience.

Offered in the morning or afternoon with pick-up in Victoria Falls, this guided hike at Batoka Gorge will take you along the Zambezi for 3 hours. Depending on the level of your walking group, you will either set off on a 4 km route at the top of the gorge, which is easy and mainly flat, making it suitable even for beginners, or on a 5 km route in the heart of the gorge, which is fairly moderate, particularly because of the gradient. Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the river and canyon, with the chance to spot local wildlife including birds, chameleons, baboons and rock rabbits. Your guide will be on hand to ensure your safety, while sharing a wealth of information about the local area to help you discover the site to the full.

The best thing about this experience? You will finish your hike in the Batoka Gorge with a picnic in the bush, either for lunch on the morning trip or for dinner at sunset on the afternoon trip. You will be fully immersed in the local culture, alongside your guide, who will be delighted to talk to you about this beautiful 3-hour walk through the splendid Batoka Gorge.
