Practical information

Discover the Cordier passage in Foussoubie Cave during a full-day, 7-hour caving trip in the Ardèche, starting from Salavas.

Supervised by a state-qualified instructor; open to those aged 12 and over, with no prior experience required.
A varied route combining abseiling, a traverse through the ‘White Room’, the ‘Softener’, the ‘Bypass Shaft’ and water basins.
Personal and team equipment provided.

Course of events

Please allow 7 hours on site for the entire experience.

Welcome at the meeting point in Salavas, handover of equipment and safety briefing (30 minutes)
Walk to the entrance of Foussoubie Cave (30 minutes)
Exploration of the first section of the cave, taking in meandering passages, stalactites and abseiling sections (2 hours 30 minutes)
Underground picnic break in the heart of the cave (please bring your own picnic)
Journey through the clean room, the softener, the bypass shaft and through the water basins (2 hours 40 minutes)
Walk back to the meeting point (10 minutes)
Returning equipment, debriefing and end of the activity (10 minutes)

Activity requirements

You need to be in good physical condition to take part in this activity.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the activity begins.

Special terms

This activity is not recommended for pregnant women.

In the caves of the Ardèche, the temperature is around 13°C.

Despite wearing protective suits, it is strongly recommended that you wear clothing that is not easily damaged.

About the activity

Discover caving in the Cordier cave in Salavas with the Face Sud instructors!

The cave of Cordier has become a very popular route for cavers to join the network of Foussoubie. Second longest karstic network of Ardèche, the network of Foussoubie counts at present 23 km of underground galleries. A real geological and mineral sanctuary, you will find crystallizations, vast rooms, chaos of blocks and underground rivers.

Intended for sportsmen, the Cordier itinerary offers a rather technical course. Fun and aquatic, it gathers all the ingredients of sport caving: narrow passages, passages in pools, and abseiling. Accompanied by a state-qualified instructor, enjoy the impressive galleries and numerous rooms of the Foussoubie network and learn the history of these caves. Make a first underground exploration and discover caving during a complete course!
