Skid through the vast mountain plateau of Finnmarksvidda on this exhilarating snowmobile excursion from Alta!

Alta is a vibrant town situated in Finnmark County in the northern part of Norway. On this snowmobile adventure, you'll travel from Alta to the vast and breathtaking Finnmarksvidda, the largest mountain plateau in Norway.

The trip begins with pick-up from the starting point in Alta. You'll enjoy a scenic drive to the captivating Gargia Valley, situated only 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) from Alta. Upon arrival at Gargia Lodge, a historic 150-year-old mountain lodge, you'll be introduced to the experienced guide. They will provide the equipment and a thorough safety briefing for snowmobiling. After getting dressed in your Arctic gear (thermal suit, shoes, and gloves), the adventure begins!

No previous snowmobiling experience is required to drive the snowmobile. You'll share the vehicle in pairs, with one driver and one passenger and the chance to switch during the tour. Following the instructor, you'll drive across the expansive Finnmarksvidda plateau, passing snow-covered forests and wide mountain plains. You'll be surrounded by beautiful Arctic wilderness in this winter wonderland!

You'll ride along an old postal road to the Beskades mountain range at the very edge of Finnmarksvidda. Then, you'll pause for a break to enjoy the panoramic views and warm up with a hot tea or coffee and some snacks. The guide will share insights about the history of the region and the Arctic lifestyle. After switching drivers, you'll head back to Gargia Lodge where the adventure comes to an end. The guide will then drive you back to the original starting point in Alta.
