Northern Lights Snowmobile Excursion from Alta

Alta is a town located in the Finnmark region of Northern Norway. On this excursion, you'll travel to a nearby wilderness area and discover the vast Finnmarksvidda, Europe's largest mountain plateau. This region is also one of the best places for witnessing the Northern Lights!

The adventure begins at the starting point in Alta. A guide will pick you up and drive you to Gargia Lodge, a 150-year-old mountain lodge in Gargia Valley. Upon arrival, you'll meet the certified instructor and receive your Arctic gear (thermal suit, boots, and gloves). The guide will take you through a safety briefing and driving instructions. No previous snowmobiling experience is required!

Then, you'll get set up on the vehicle, shared between two participants (one driver and one passenger with the chance to switch midway). Following the instructor, you'll set off on the snowmobiling adventure! You'll drive through the Beskades Mountain Range, located at the beginning of Finnmarksvidda. Along the way, you'll pass snow-covered trees, low-lying hills, and lakes. You'll learn more about the history of this region and the local Sami people throughout the tour.

If you're lucky, the Arctic night sky will light up with the phenomenal colours of the Northern Lights! Away from the city light pollution, you have a greater chance of witnessing the Aurora Borealis. The guide will share insights about the myths and legends of these magnificent lights. You'll stop for a break midway to admire the breathtaking views and enjoy some hot tea or coffee. Then, you'll snowmobile back to Gargia Lodge and be driven to the original starting point in Alta.
