When to visit Pico?

The best time to visit Pico depends on your preferred activities. From May to October, the island enjoys mild temperatures and longer daylight hours, ideal for climbing Mount Pico, cycling, and exploring the outdoors. This period also coincides with the peak whale watching season, when several species migrate through the Azores’ waters, offering unforgettable marine encounters.

Spring and early summer are particularly vibrant, with lush landscapes and blooming wildflowers, while autumn brings the grape harvest and lively wine festivals. Winter is quieter but still suitable for caving and cultural experiences, though weather conditions may limit some outdoor excursions. Regardless of the season, Pico’s natural beauty and welcoming atmosphere make it a rewarding destination year-round.

We hiked to the top of Mount Pico with Tripix and our guide Bruno. We were very grateful for Bruno’s guidance as it made the strenuous hike easy because Bruno recommended paths up the mountain that allowed us to expend less energy.
