Nestled just below the Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi is a gateway to the wild heart of Finnish Lapland, where fishing is more than a pastime—it is a way to connect with nature’s rhythms. Here, the Ounasjoki and Kemijoki rivers wind through spruce forests and open fells, their waters reflecting the shifting northern light. The city itself, renowned as the official hometown of Santa Claus, sits at the confluence of these rivers, offering anglers access to pristine stretches of water framed by the untamed beauty of Lapland. Whether under the midnight sun or the soft glow of autumn, fishing in Rovaniemi is an invitation to experience the serenity and rawness of the far north.

Casting a line in Rovaniemi is an immersive journey through varied landscapes and sensations. Early mornings bring a cool mist rising from the riverbanks, the air scented with pine and earth. Anglers may drift along calm stretches of the Kemijoki, feeling the gentle pull of the current, or wade into clear tributaries where trout and grayling dart beneath the surface. The terrain ranges from pebbled shores to mossy banks, with the occasional sound of reindeer bells in the distance. Fishing here can be meditative, punctuated by the sudden thrill of a bite, the tension of the line, and the flash of a fish breaking the water’s surface. Half-day and full-day excursions are common, with routes tailored to both the seasoned fly fisher and those new to the sport. The contrasts—quiet patience and sudden action, soft Arctic light and vibrant river life—define the experience.

an incredible tour, so much better than just the 500m at santa village. A secluded business away from roads and populated areas. Really feels magical and the dogs are incredibly cared for and loved! We absolutely loved it and would go again. Spent ages looking for the best place where dogs are cared for well and this really was the best of the best.
