In the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes, the village of Saint-Auban is home to a secret vertical route commanding views over the turquoise waters of the Estéron. This via cordata outing in Saint-Auban plunges you into a wild setting where time-sculpted limestone walls provide an exceptional playground. The route is defined by the presence of the Grotte de l'Oreille — an impressive rock shelter that once served as an archaeological site and today offers a panoramic vantage point accessible only to those willing to venture there on rope.
The experience kicks off with an immediate rush of adrenaline as you zip line across the river below. Under the expert eye of your Couleur Canyon guide, you'll make your way up a 50-metre rock face to reach a suspended Nepalese bridge. The route then continues along a striking ridge leading to the legendary Grotte de l'Oreille. After a quiet moment of contemplation in the cool of the rock shelter, you'll make a technical abseil descent to leave this natural haven behind. The remainder of the route alternates between flower-lined ledges and rocky steps, all suspended 100 metres above the canyon.
This adventure along the via cordata de l'Oreille is aimed at sporty participants in search of something wilder and more intimate than a standard via ferrata route. All technical equipment — harnesses, helmets, and safety lanyards — is provided by the team. Although the route is highly exposed, the entire itinerary was equipped in 2025 by your guides, ensuring optimal safety and exclusive access to passages far beyond the reach of the general public. Group sizes are capped at 10 participants per instructor to guarantee a smooth and enjoyable progression.
The via cordata de l'Oreille is accessible from May to September, making it a perfect alternative to water-based activities on sunny days. Book your via cordata session in Saint-Auban now and uncover the hidden treasures of the Estéron valley!
