The unspoilt coastline between Hitiaa and Tautira, to the east of Tahiti, offers an unforgettable experience of exploration diving from Taravao. Much less frequented than the west of the island, this maritime area will allow you to admire the incredible underwater flora and fauna of French Polynesia in complete tranquillity, at around 20 sites accessible to divers of all levels:

THE ROSE GARDEN (reef dive, -8 to -50 m) / Open Water min. - a famous reef highlighted by UNESCO in 2022 as the world's largest coral reef in pristine condition, with rose-shaped corals, mainly of the montipora foliosa and porites rus types, over 3 km long (accessible from PE40, but Open Water / Level 1 divers can dive on the upper part of the reef where the first roses form at 23 m). This is an exceptional site where you can encounter turtles, coral sharks, heterocongers and all the reef fish.

TOTORO PASS (diving in the pass, -10 to -50 m) / Open Water min. - an enormous drop-off rising from the abyssal depths to -40 m, at which depth the plateau begins, rising gently towards the lagoon to the foot of a step from -25 m to -15 m. Here you can see barracudas, turtles, coral sharks, jacks of various species, schools of milkfish, starry tetrodons, etc.

TAUTIRA FAULTS (dive in the pass, -6 to -40 m) / Open Water min. - superb relief on the side of a pass (the drop-off has collapsed, forming a maze of corridors, cavities and rock passages between -6 and -20 m). Here you can see many green and hawksbill turtles, sleeper sharks, coral sharks, yellow gorgonians at -30 m, schools of bigeye trevally, perch and sauper.

THE BELVÉDÈRES (wall dive, from -6 to -50 m) / Open Water min. - diving along a drop-off where 2 overhangs (‘belvédères’), spaced about a hundred metres apart, jut out into the blue, between which the relief forms a sort of circus that plunges into a half-basin to a depth of -50 m. Here you can see schools of mackerel trevally, black triggerfish and fusiliers, green and/or hawksbill turtles, star tetrodons, all the reef fish and many other species.

And there are plenty of other dive sites, most of which are accessible to Level 1 divers! You will dive in groups of 4 divers with 1 dive master, on 2 exploration dive sites in Tahiti iti. Enjoy the beauty of the Polynesian underwater world with the Mokarran Diving team, who will take you diving from Taravao!
