The trail can be narrow and have sharp bends, which require a good balance to steer the sled. The guides are entitled to deny drivers and passengers from joining this tour for health and safety reasons.
For an 'easier' level of dog sledding, we highly advise booking the 'Beginner Self-Drive Dog Sledding Safari from Tromsø'.

Embark on a thrilling self-drive dog sledding adventure in Tromsø! Lead your own pack of loyal and energetic huskies through the snowy terrains of northern Norway, surrounded by the arctic mountain landscapes and scenic fjords, and recover with a delicious meal only 90 minutes from the city and with convenient transportation.
Dog sledding is one of the oldest methods of transportation in the Arctic, and has a special connection with the locals. Are you ready to take the lead and learn what it takes to be a musher? This activity is set at an intermediate level. This means that, though you don't need to have any previous experience to mush your own husky team, you do need to have a good physical condition in order to spend a long time out in the snow, and help the huskies get thorugh difficult passages in the snow.
Your dog sledding adventure from Tromsø begins with a pick-up from the city center, where you will meet your guides at least 15 minutes before your departure time, and hop on a scenic 90-minute bus ride towards the wilderness center in Camp Tamok. Once you've reached the camp, you will be provided with warm winter clothing, including warm overalls, a hat, mittens, and boots, and follow a thorough safety instruction and a practical demonstration of mushing techniques. After you've met your new furry friends, it is time to head out in the wild and immerse yourself in the Nordic culture and landscapes!
As this is a hands-on experience, two people will share each sled, one riding while the other one can sit back and enjoy the ride (you can switch midway). The trail is 12 kilometers long and has a duration of approximately 65 to 90 minutes, depending on the snow conditions of the day. Prepare to ride along some breathtaking scenery, taking in the cold, crisp Arctic air while feeling the thrill of riding the sled with your own pack of Alaskan huskies!
After the self-drive dog sledding excursion near Tromsø, your guide will lead the way to a traditional reindeer herder's tent, where you will enjoy a delicious Norwegian stew or soup by the campfire, complemented with bread, tea, and water. Savor the flavors and cherish the moments out in northern Norway with your loved ones, while learning about the Nordic culture and life in the Arctic.
Once you've warmed up, it is time to say goodbye to the huskies and board the bus, returning to Tromsø with some lifelong memories of this unique excursion.
