Course of events
Please allow about 8.5 hours for the entire experience
- Meet the team in front of the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromsø, at least 15 minutes in advance
- Drive to the kennel in Skibotn with the Activenorth bus (approx. 2 hours)
- Arrival at the camp at Helligskogen Fjellstue around 10.30 a.m., where you will spend about 3.5 hours:
- Equipment of winter overall suits and boots
- Safety briefing and sled driving lesson
- Departure for 1 to 1.5 hours of dog sledding in Skibotn Valley, with a quick break halfway to have the opportunity to take photos, cuddle the dogs, and for the driver and the passenger of the sled to switch places
- Back at the kennel, break around a hot soup, fresh mountain spring water, and coffee or tea
- Transfer back to Tromsø to end the activity, with an arrival expected around 5 p.m.
Activity requirements
No previous experience is required; however, please be advised that participants must be in reasonable physical condition and have the strength to help the dogs pull the sled.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the departure time.
A minimum number of 2 participants is required to run this activity.
Special terms
This activity is not accessible to pregnant people.
Please list any dietary restrictions when booking.
Please note that if the snow has not come, the activity will be done with carts instead of sleds.
During the Polar Night season (December/early January), the excursion will be conducted with a headlamp, as it will be partially dark.
Pets are not permitted to join in this activity.

About the activity
The village of Skibotn in Norway is situated on the eastern shore of the Lyngen fjord, surrounded by picturesque landscapes and mountains. Located in the north of the country and close to the Arctic Circle, the region features snowy conditions in the winter months, creating a white wonderland. Dog sledding is a traditional activity in this region and a great way to discover the natural beauty of the area!
Once you arrive, the experienced dog musher will introduce you to the friendly Alaskan Huskies native to the region. You will begin with a safety briefing and driving lesson before receiving your Arctic gear. Each sled will be shared by 2, 1 passenger and 1 driver, with the chance to switch during the tour. Once you are prepared, the adventure begins!
Your team of energetic dogs (4 to 5 dogs) will pull your sled into the pine forests that surround the kennel for 1 to 1.5 hours of dog sledding in the Skibotn Valley. Travelling through the scenic outdoors, you will experience true Arctic wilderness! The dogs will travel up into the snowy mountains, providing a picturesque view of the Lyngen Alps, an extraordinary mountain range. This traditional activity will make you feel like a local as you discover nature and wildlife. Midway through, you will take a short break so the dogs can rest. Then, after switching drivers, you will ride back to the camp. Upon returning to the farm, you will say goodbye to your new four-legged friends before your return transfer to Tromsø.
