Kvaløya is an island located near Tromsø in Northern Norway. It is known for its scenic beauty, with rugged mountains, deep fjords and lush forests. For this activity, transfers are included from the city of Tromsø.

The adventure begins at the meeting point in Tromsø, where you’ll be picked up in a comfortable minibus. You’ll enjoy a 30-minute scenic drive to the kennel in Kvaløya, where the experienced guide and team of huskies will be waiting for you. Upon arrival, you’ll get equipped in warm winter clothing, including winter overalls, winter boots, hats, and mittens. Then, you’ll explore the kennel and meet the friendly dogs!

After interacting with the dogs, the guide will share some interesting facts about the Alaskan Husky and the history of the breed. Then, you will go through a safety briefing and demonstration, learning how to drive your own sled of dogs. Each sled will be operated in pairs, with one driver and one passenger, and a team of 5-7 dogs. There will be opportunities to switch positions throughout the tour. Once you are prepared, the self-drive dog sledding adventure begins!

The dogs will set off running across the snowy terrain as you feel the mountain breeze on your face and listen to the gentle sound of their paws. Throughout the ride, you’ll experience the natural beauty of the Arctic nature. You’ll stop for breaks to capture photos and switch positions on the sled.

After the 80-minute dog sledding adventure, you’ll return to the kennels and say goodbye to your new furry friends. Hot drinks and cake will be served in a traditional Sami tent, while the guide shares more insights about the huskies. After returning your winter clothing, the driver will take you back to the starting point in Tromsø.

Nous avons adoré ! C'est une expérience incroyable de conduire son traîneau conduit par des chiens plein de fougue qu'il faut guider, canaliser, dans des paysages exceptionnels ! L'encadrement est super. Nous aurions aimé rester plus longtemps à câliner ces boules de poil et savourer le chocolatchaud/carrot cake.

We probably would have been thrilled on our first visit, but compared to our last dog sledding trip in Finland, it was a disappointment. The group was much too large, and we had to constantly brake (even uphill!) to avoid running into the sleds in front of us. Some of the dogs also seemed very tired and reacted rather fearfully to attention.
